Enza Zaden opens a second breeding station in France
Thursday, 1 April 2008
On Wednesday 19 March, Enza Zaden officially inaugurated a second breeding station in France. The station is located strategically in the Provence, near the town of Châteaurenard.
Ideal climate
The location is not only an important growing area for vegetables, but the climate in this part of France is ideal. The region has Mistral winds 200 days a year and the difference between day and night temperatures is huge. This enables us to select very strong varieties; if a variety performs well in the Provence, it will succeed everywhere!
Main activities
The station has an acreage of 11 hectares, of which 3 hectares are covered by plastic polytunnels. In the summer and spring period, we'll focus on tomatoes, cucumbers and melons. During the winter, the station will select lettuce varieties in plastic polytunnels.
