Enza Zaden - News - E 81.2051, the first success galia from a promising breeding programme

After years of selection in its Spanish subsidiaries in Almeria and Murcia, Enza Zaden has successfully introduced a new galia variety in Spain this spring/summer: E 81.2051. The company has set the goal to develop a line of varieties that are easy to cultivate, but that have also a good shelf life without compromising on quality and taste. From this breeding programme, E 81.2051 is one of the first varieties that is currently commercially introduced in Spain.

At the moment, the leek variety Previta is grown on 70 hectares in the Netherlands. Roland Sweijen, team leader for leek plants at Enza Zaden, is expecting a doubling of growing area. 'There is no variety with such a growing speed or resistance to white rot. Previta has the ideal combination for premium growing in leeks.

June 3, the Enza Zaden housefair started dynamically. These first days, a great number of growers, grower associations, retail and supermarkets were present to meet new trade partners and to discuss the current and new Enza Zaden varieties among each other. Varieties that all perfectly meet de latest demands in the market. After all, supermarkets today reduce the amount of segments and growers choose even more so for certainty and reliability as a result of the current market prices. With the new varieties, Enza Zaden focuses even more on these characteristics: certainty and reliability.

Enza Zaden - News - Successful Enza Zaden House Fair in Italy

For the fourth year in a row Enza Zaden organised a House Fair in Sicily in week 15. During this event different members of the supply chain visit modern and innovative horticultural companies in the Ragusa area. In addition to this, new and existing tomato varieties were presented at the Enza Zaden R&D-station. This R&D-station is the only one on the island.
