Poland
In the 70’s Jacob and Piet Mazereeuw frequently visited Polish growers (both small private growers and big state companies), this was the real beginning of Enza’s History in Poland. In October 1983 the companies Enza Zaden, Bejo Zaden, Van Doorn, Van Dijk Zaden en Jan Valkerink Bulbs established with Dynamo (a Polish state owned company) Agro Centrum Holandia, a shop were private growers could buy vegetable and flowers seeds.
In 1990 Mr. Buziewski grounded THU Halex and took-over the import of Enza Zaden and Bejo Zaden from Dynamo. THU Halex remained as an importer of seeds from Enza Zaden till the end of 2002.
From January 1st. 2003 the smallest Enza daughter company started it’s activities. Enza zaden Poland Sp. Z.o.o. started with a small, but very enthusiastic team, which contains following members: Mr. Nowak, Mr. Ziolo, Mr. Reizer.
All 3 members have been working already for a long period in the seedbusiness, Mr. Nowak started in 1984 at our first importer, the company Dynamo and went afterwards as a sales manager to THU Halex. Mr. Reizer started to work as an office manager in 1990 for THU Halex and Mr. Ziolo started as a product promoter for THU Halex in 1993.
The company Enza Zaden Poland is based in a rather new part of Warsaw in the Ursynow area, which is in the Southern part of Warsaw close to the airport. The office is about 5 years old and has been redecorated and is now fully equipped with a conditioned seed store, meeting room and new offices.
As we are a small organisation, all the team members are multi-functional. Mr. Nowak is taking care about the general management, as well as key-accounts and the sales in the northern part of Poland. Mr. Ziolo is taking care of technical advice and the sales in the southern part of Poland and Mr. Reizer is taking care about order handling, shipments, the seed stock and the bookkeeping.
Poland is a huge country, with a large number of smaller and bigger sized growers. It is impossible for our small team to visit all small growers personally, so we are working in Poland with a distribution network of regional dealers and local sub-dealers. Large growers and the dealers are visited directly on a regular basis. After joining the EU in 2004 we see a fast development of innovative growers in Poland who are focussing on export mainly to Germany, UK and Scandinavia. This new generation of growers have the motivation, the expertise, the production facilities and well equipped employees to grow rapidly the next coming years and due to this, they will belong to the group of key-growers in Europe in the near future.
The main products for Enza in the Polish market are Tomato (small beef, 160-180 grams) in glasshouse, tunnel and open-field, Cucumber BAT in glasshouse and tunnel, Sweet Pepper in tunnel, Lettuce in glasshouse, tunnel and open-field, Radish in tunnel and open-field, Cauliflower and Leek.
