Opening Enza Zaden Asia

Inauguration facilities Malaysia

On 29 and 30 March, our South East Asian regional headquarters and new facilities in Penang, Malaysia, will be opened with a two-day inauguration programme. On the first day, we celebrate the opening of our new state-of-the-art R&D facilities. This will be followed by the opening of our regional headquarters and logistics centre on the second day.

Malaysia: perfect location Enza Zaden Asia

Jaap Mazereeuw, CEO Enza Zaden: “Malaysia is the perfect location for business and logistics throughout South East Asia. That’s why we have chosen this location as our regional headquarters, for our new R&D location and as the logistic hub for Southeast Asia.”

Two-day opening festivities

For both days, we organise a comprehensive programme to celebrate the opening with customers and chain partners from different Southeast Asian countries and, because of our Dutch roots, the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Malaysia.

Regional headquarters

Enza Zaden Asia is responsible for the development of vegetable varieties and logistics of the seeds of these varieties in South East Asia. Pankaj Malik, Regional Director: “This is a region with a lot of possibilities: more than 600 million people in 13 countries, and a lot of diversity in culture and food habits.”

Logistic centre & hub

The logistic centre in Penang has 4000 cubic meter capacity to sort, pack and store the seeds. Malik: “We will be able to transport bulk seeds by boat directly from Penang through the region and to send smaller seed packages to our customers by road. Thanks to the direct flight connections from Penang we are able to transport high valued seeds safely and quickly by air. This way, we’ll serve our customers in the best possible and efficient way.”

R&D facilities

With 20 ha of terraced irrigated trial fields, several greenhouses and tunnels for breeding activities, phytopathology research and farm support buildings, we are ready to develop new vegetable varieties for Asia. Varieties that are totally attuned to the Southeast Asian market and climate demands. Pankaj Malik: “And this pays already off: we have some successful varieties of bitter gourd and pumpkin ready, to be commercialised early next year.”
