What are you going to do?
As a Senior Cucumber Breeder, you will be responsible for the development of cucumber varieties. You will manage several breeding programmes under your direction. To this purpose, you will create a long-term vision based on the latest market developments. Together with your team members you will prepare and execute breeding and screening trials, and consequently analyse the data. You act like a coach within the team and know how to stimulate and develop your team members.
You will work together in international and multidisciplinary teams: with colleagues of other departments, ranging from commercial specialists to researchers.Trials are located in different regions of North America and Northwest Europe, so travelling will be part of this job. You will report to the Crop Breeding Manager Cucumber.
You function well in a multidisciplinary team and are able to work independently. You proactively cooperate with internal colleagues, such as research, sales and operations. As an energetic person you will focus on the development (needs) of the team members. Strong analytical skills enable you to analyse breeding data and market trends efficiently and translate these into practical breeding programmes. To succeed in this position you are an enthusiastic entrepreneur with a strong vision who sees new possibilities and makes strategic choices.
You are familiar with novel molecular breeding technologies and you know how to implement these in the breeding programs. You also have affinity with ICT applications.
In short you:
- have a MSc degree (Plant Breeding);
- have a minimum of five years working experience as Plant Breeder;
- are prepared to travel in the Netherlands (frequently) and abroad (about 5-10 times per year);
- are creative, work systematically and show great perseverance;
- have management experience.
