Enza Zaden USA in San Juan Bautista, CA is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team.
What will you do?
As Laboratory Technician you will provide support in the execution of experiments on postharvest quality and shelf-life of vegetable products, according to precise regulations and protocols, directions and instructions, to establish quality data as part of research programs.
- Independent execution and assessment of all own, more complex tests/productions and the administrative processing.
- Recording of all routine results of the department in designated systems, signalling abnormalities and proposing solutions.
- Correct use and maintenance of all equipment, and troubleshooting of all common manlfunctions.
- Reading, understanding, interpreting, applying and selecting all protocols for the tests/productions to be executed, signalling errors and proposing improvements.
- Planning of own daily activities, as well as overseeing the overall progress of the department.
- Taking the initiative with possible bottlenecks in planning and informing Team Lead.
- Induction and functional coaching of lower level Laboratory Technicians and interns.
- Coordinates contract labor to execute the various steps in the protocol.
- Notifies supervisor of any issues and protocol non-compliance.
- Independent data collection to ensure on-time delivery of data and reporting.
- Supporting the postharvest team with data analysis, as needed.
- Co-responsible for a healthy and safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural or biological discipline (e.g., food science, biology, plant science, botany, horticulture, agronomy).
- 3 to 5 years of training and experience relevant to the job.
- Ability to work with basic lab equipment (e.g. balance, pH meter, titraror, refractometer) and related computer systems.
- Ability to work with different crops and chemicals in the prescribed and safe manner.
- Occasionally works under time pressure.
- Occasional strenuous work.
- Details oriented.
- Working in laboratory environment that may consist of chemical/toxic substances.
- A thorough understanding of English, both verbal and written is required.
- The ability to speak and understand Spanish is highly desired.
- Have basic knowledge and practice of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Power Point, Word).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
