What are you going to do?
The Seed Pathology department is specialized in research on seed-borne pathogens, development of seed health test methods and seed sanitation protocols.
As a Researcher Seed Sanitation you develop sustainable methods to clean seeds from seed borne pathogens and contaminants. You perform scientifically sound research and translate your findings to suitable, robust and practical solutions as part of seed processing flows. In this process you seek constant alignment with colleagues at the work floor, thus making sure your solutions will be easily implemented. Furthermore, you will advise our Processing Specialists on seed health issues and provide them with relevant knowledge and management tools. This requires a hands-on and collaborative approach.
You will report to the Senior Researcher.
You are passionate about plants, microbes and their interaction. You have a life or food sciences background, are knowledgeable in microbiology and chemistry and in the engineering part of the job. Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate tasks at hand. Based on your diagnosis you come up with creative solutions fitting situational needs. For you, a research project does not end with presenting results: you make sure your findings and solutions are embedded in clear protocols and implemented at the work floor. One of your key assets is your ability to interact at different organizational levels and share your knowledge with people at the work floor in an understandable matter.
In short you:
- have a Master in Life- or Food Sciences;
- have 3-5 years of relevant experience as a researcher;
- have strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- understand the dynamics of an industrial setting;
- stay on top of the latest (scientific) developments and are able to share your expertise in multidisciplinary teams and on different levels;
- have a collaborative mindset and feel for participation in internal and external projects from an industry perspective.
Enza Zaden is a vegetable breeding company that develops vegetable varieties. We produce and sell the seeds of these varieties all over the world. Both for conventional and organic growers. In order to explain this properly (and as briefly as possible) we have made an animation
For more than 80 years we are working with the best that nature offers. We support this with state-of-the-art technologies to speed up our breeding process. That is really necessary, because currently the development of a new vegetable variety takes up 6 to 10 years.
The results? Strong, healthy, tasty and climate-proof vegetable varieties with higher yield per square meter and less need of crop protection products or fertilizer.
Our strength? More than 2000 passionate colleagues worldwide working together on the vegetables of tomorrow. Therefore, we continuously invest in knowledge and skills with our Enza Academy and under the flag of enzActive we organise various sports activities to stay healthy.
