Working on new varieties in a fast-paced environment
What are you going to do?
As a Senior Breeder Hydro Lettuce, you will be responsible for the development of lettuce varieties for high-tech hydroponic growing systems. You will manage a breeding program in several lettuce types, like the trio lettuce. To this purpose, you will create a long-term vision based on the latest market developments. You will prepare and execute the breeding trials, and consequently analyse the data from these trials.
You will work together in international and multidisciplinary teams, with for example the sales representatives, production specialists, biotech breeders and researchers, and also with external companies. Trials are located in different regions in North-West Europe.
You will work together with the other breeders in the team and report to the Crop Breeding Manager Leafy Vegetables.
As an experienced breeder you know how the manage a complete breeding program. As hydroponic lettuce is a fast-growing market you are sharp and know when to step up a gear to stay on top of the dynamics. You can work independent, but are also a team player, supporting your team members in the speed of the cycle. You proactively cooperate in a multidisciplinary team.
Strong analytical skills enable you to analyse breeding data and market trends efficiently and translate these into practical breeding programs. To succeed in this position you are a creative and enthusiastic entrepreneur with a strong vision who sees new possibilities and makes strategic choices.
You are familiar with novel molecular breeding technologies and you know how to implement these in the breeding programs. You also have affinity with ICT applications.
In short you:
- have a MSc degree (Plant Breeding);
- have a minimum of five years working experience as Plant Breeder;
- are a strong communicator;
- have an entrepreneurial spirit and flexible mindset;
- are creative, work systematically and show great perseverance.
