What are you going to do?

For our station in Stellenbosch, we are looking for a Manager Applications who will ensure optimal performance of established processes and the implementation of new methods, services and technologies within the tissue culture activities, as well as managing a team of process supervisors.
Our plant cell and tissue application laboratories make use of several technologies and produce a wide range of products. Our activities in plant cell and tissue culture contribute to the efficiency of our breeding processes.

You are responsible for the management of DH production, micropropagation of parental lines and medium production. You bring out the best of your team of process supervisors by supervising and coaching them. Next to that your keep an eye on quality management and facility/equipment management. 

Main tasks:
  • Supervision of Process Supervisors;
  • Process data analyses for identification of trends and problem solving;
  • Oversee quality of material, including hands-on evaluation of material;
  • Budget control;
  • Reporting of results to stakeholders;
  • Communication/interaction with the relevant greenhouse manager regarding donor plants and plants for seed production;
  • Literature searches for optimisation and to expand knowledge.

Getting everyone involved, meeting deadlines and deliver based upon a clear planning: with your planning and time management skills you can do it all. Your plant science (plant physiology) background makes you a knowledgeable discussion partner and thus involved at both process and content. Next to that, you have green fingers and a natural feeling for plant state. You are analytical and attentive to detail, but able to keep eye on bigger picture. Furthermore, you get energised by solving problems and the optimisation of processes to achieve the company’s targets. 
In short you:
  • have a MSc degree;
  • have a minimum of 10 years of managerial and coaching experience in a laboratory environment;
  • have excellent plant physiology knowledge;
  • have strong analytical skills for data interpretation and problem solving;
  • have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proficient in the local and English language, both written and verbal;
  • ICT skills.
