Guarantee high seed quality through research in seed production
What are you going to do?
As a (Junior) Researcher, you will contribute to fundamental and applied research that increases our insights of seed production aspects of vegetable crops, resulting in improved seed quantity and seed quality characteristics. Your research topics will include optimal seed harvest moment, plant-biostimulant interactions and post-harvest practices, focusing on open field and leafy crops. Investigations take place in the field, or under controlled greenhouse and lab conditions.
You will have the opportunity to develop and apply innovative techniques to solve seed research questions. Data collection and analysis is a key part of your diverse daily activities and you report to the team leader of Seed Production Research.
The Seed Technology department (Seed Operations) comprises of multiple routine and research teams, including Seed Production Research. Our team aims at improving seed producibility of fruity, open field, and leafy crops through research. Focus is on reproductive plant biology, plant balance, optimal harvest moment, and crop measures that contribute to reliable and optimal seed production. We are keen on expanding our knowledge portfolio by exploring advances in above mentioned topics, and new techniques. Our team collaborates with the Seed Production department, Breeding, and other research teams.
You are passionate about vegetable seed production and eager to translate research into seed production applications. Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate, experiment and conclude in a practical and timely manner.
Thanks to your good communication skills, you connect easily with people on multiple levels and take responsibility for your tasks. You are perseverant when dealing with complex challenges and you have a flexible mindset that allows you to switch between activities and reprioritize when needed in a fast pace, dynamic organization. An analytic, proactive, and practical attitude is required.
In short, you:
- have a MSc in plant (biological) sciences;
- have affinity with plant physiology and are knowledgeable about microbials/plant-biostimulant interactions;
- have interest in translating research findings into practical applications;
- are fluent in Dutch and English;
- have your driving license;
- are willing to travel abroad occasionally;
- are a non-smoker to avoid transmission of vegetable plant diseases.
