As of 8 February 2024, Enza Zaden has acquired Balk Wervershoof B.V. (Balk Wervershoof). Balk Wervershoof is a GSPP-certified greenhouse horticulture company (GSPP: Good Seed & Plant Practices) that has been producing tomato, cucumber and sweet pepper seeds exclusively for Enza Zaden for almost sixty years. With the expansion of its production capacity, we will be able to continue to meet a growing demand for high quality vegetable seeds.

Jaap Mazereeuw, CEO of Enza Zaden: “We have enjoyed working with Balk Wervershoof for a long time. The company produces high quality seeds and employs highly experienced and skilled employees. We are proud that we can now add this expertise to our company, and we extend a warm welcome to all the employees of Balk Wervershoof.”

Klaas Balk, former owner of Balk Wervershoof B.V. together with his brother Cees Balk: “We have been working closely with Enza Zaden for almost sixty years now. Just like Enza Zaden, we are a family business and are happy that all the knowledge and experience we have accumulated in recent years can be carried further in this way.”

With the transfer of shares, Enza Zaden is the new owner of Balk Wervershoof B.V. The investment is in line with our goal to develop high quality vegetable varieties that contribute to the availability of healthy food all over the world, and that provide added value for a sustainable way of life. With the expansion, we are strengthening our production capacity.
