On 28 November, Gee van Duin, a biology teacher at the Cartesius Lyceum in Amsterdam, will be presented the Enza Zaden Award for his series of interesting lessons in plant biology for the highest classes of his school’s HAVO (senior general secondary education) and VWO (pre-university education). The award, which involves a sum of 4000 euros, will be presented at the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW; Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities) in Haarlem. The breeding sector is in great need of young people educated in plant sciences. The interest required to choose such a study can be aroused by appealing education in plant biology at secondary school. That was the reason why Enza Zaden in Enkhuizen, the Nederlands Instituut voor Biologie (NIBI; Dutch Institute for Biology) and the KHMW decided to introduce this award as a joint initiative.
