Enza Zaden invites all undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to participate in their sustainability competition, the SustainAbility Project. The aim of this call is to promote a culture of sustainability in various areas: economic, environmental, social, and business. We seek innovative solutions to the challenges faced by seed improvement in the current context.
Seed improvement is a crucial activity in agriculture that aims to develop new plant varieties with improved characteristics, such as higher yield and disease resistance. This field has evolved significantly thanks to modern techniques such as biotechnology. However, it faces significant challenges due to climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity. Sustainability in this area is vital to ensure that new plant varieties meet current and future needs.
Participants must address key issues such as genetic erosion, intensive resource consumption, intellectual property rights, climate resilience, farmers' rights, biodiversity conservation, and consumer preferences. The competition seeks solutions that promote comprehensive sustainability, considering economic viability, environmental impact, business efficiency, and social well-being.
