Our commercial office and research station in France are both strategically situated in Allonnes close to Saumur in the Loire valley. This region is known as ‘le jardin de France’ (the garden of France) on account of its ideal microclimate. The subsidiaries are also conveniently located between northern and southern Europe.
Our main breeding activities here relate to lettuce and endive. Our programmes also include radish, radicchio and pumpkin. As the region around Nantes, near Allonnes, produces the most corn salad in Europe, this is also a very important product for us.
The second breeding station is near Châteaurenard in the south-east of France. There, efforts focus on the breeding of melon, courgette and pumpkin in spring and summer. In the winter months we select lettuce varieties in plastic tunnels.
