Enza Zaden Mexico present at Expo Irapuato team

Open field, hydro cabin and greenhouse presence

Enza Zaden had an impactful presence at Expo Irapuato, a combined team effort lead to a great showing in our open field and greenhouse demonstrations! With our newest cucumber, tomato and pepper varieties on display for visitors from all over Mexico and the world to see. We interacted with well over 500 visitors, ranging from growers to field technicians, crop advisors and business partners over the 4 locations.

Our sales and R&D team worked hard in planning, planting and caring for over 60 varieties of multiple different crop types. Allowing us to be able to show the crops at their peak performance during the event.

"We take pride in having the best grown vegetables to show during the Expo, people know and come to see it, you can count even the competitors checking us out every time.” mentioned Sr Sales Rep and greenhouse responsible Herlindo Martinez. Having a new greenhouse this year came as an extra challenge, however it allowed us to have better growing conditions for our crops. The challenge was met head on by the team and resulted in a great showing of our varieties.

HREZ Tomatoes

We demonstrated our newest HREZ genetics, that has a High Resistance to ToBRFV. We were able to showcase: Macapule, Perimos and Martinique among our plum, grape and beef offerings for growers to evaluate and learn about. Christian Ortega, Sales Rep West commented, “Our grape tomato Pascua having HREZ is becoming a very interesting variety for growers and produce traders alike, we have good expectations for it and the new ones coming in the pipeline shortly after.”

Sweet Peppers

Our Tribelli and blocky peppers received great attention from growers in Central Mexico and the Bajio area. Antonio Guerrero, Area Sales Manager, explains “Our red pepper assortment with Ocelot, Margrethe and Presley for mid tech greenhouses has proven to be very effective, by providing consistent yield of the highest quality peppers in the market." We also are receiving a growing interest in our yellow and orange peppers programs with Eurix, Sabour and Orbit.

Cucumbers

Our collaboration with Ahern allows us to promote our cucumber varieties and strengthen our connections within the industry. We hosted their team in our greenhouse to share best practices and develop plans to continue our growth in both organic and conventional varieties.

Open Field and Hydro Lettuce Cabin

Over 30 different varieties of lettuce, onion, zucchini, spinach, cauliflower, jalapeño and ancho peppers were grown in our open field plots and demonstrating the expertise and skill of our team. It is no small task to have all of the crops reach their peak stage of maturity at the same time. Daniel Salgado, Area manager for Central South explains: “Our Expo planning starts in May when we receive the plots and adequate spaces to fill in our extensive variety assortment. It´s challenging to select the best suited genetics but also have in mind the right set up for the event to look it´s best combining visual and agronomic traits.”

Hydroponic Lettuce

This is the second year in a row that we have presented a hydroponic lettuce demonstration at the Expo. It draws large crowds, composed of students, professional growers, crop advisors and the public to look and learn about how to get involved with growing hydroponic lettuce.

Alejandro Castro, Sales Representative in Bajio, had a lot of interest from the growers stopping by our hydro lettuce cabin. He says, “The hydro lettuce cabin attracted a very large crowd of growers and the public to watch the demonstration and learn about this new way of growing in controlled agriculture. Several open field lettuce growers expressed interest in doing trials in the upcoming seasons."
