The International Bremia Evaluation Board for the EU (IBEB-EU) tackles this challenge for Europe, and the IBEB-US does it for the US. These Boards monitor and identify the emergence of new races of Bremia lactucae that pose a significant threat to the lettuce industry and promote standardised race names in communications with growers.
The International Bremia Evaluation Board Europe (IBEB-EU) has announced that no new Bremia lactucae races have been denominated in 2026. Following the evaluation of 381 isolates collected across Europe between 2025 and early 2026, the board concluded that no distinctive new threats have emerged in the field. The most recent races Bl:38EU, Bl:39EU, Bl:40EU and Bl:41EU remain the most relevant for lettuce production today.
