Speakers

Helga van Leur

Helga van Leur - Meteorologist

Helga van Leur is a well-known meteorologist and climate expert, with a background in Agricultural Sciences at Wageningen University. She translates complex climate developments into clear, relevant insights.

In her session, she will give a fresh perspective on how climate change in Europe is evolving – what has changed in the past years and what we can expect in the coming years. She connects this directly to the impact on agriculture and what this means in practice.

You can expect a clear, fact-based story that helps you understand what’s coming and how to respond.

Henk Smith – Kiwi grower in the Netherlands

Henk Smith is a fruit grower at Nieuw Slagmaat, the Netherlands and one of the pioneers of kiwi cultivation in Northern Europe.

His story shows how climate change can also create opportunities. By introducing kiwi growing in the Netherlands, he turned a non-obvious idea into a successful business. In his session, he shares his journey – why he started, what challenges he faced, and what made it work.

You can expect an honest and inspiring story about entrepreneurship, innovation and adapting to change.

Panel Discussion

Experience & insight from the industry

The panel brings together growers from different regions and production systems:
- Jelte van Kammen CEO Harvest House (NL),
Kathryn Wright Director Wright Farm Produce (UK),
- Manolo Escanez General manager Hortichuelas (Spain).
The session is set up as an interactive exchange, alternating between questions to the panel and input from the audience.

We’ll explore how growers currently experience climate change in their day-to-day business: what they are running into, the impact on crops and operations, and how they are looking at the future — including the choices they are making today.
The aim is to keep it practical and honest, with real experiences and open exchange across regions and production systems.

Breeding Partnership

Climate change is increasingly shaping the future of food production. Changing climate conditions, environmental pressure and economic uncertainty affect the way growers and industry partners operate today β€” and how they will need to operate tomorrow.

With Breeding Partnership 2026, Enza Zaden brings together a select group of key growers and partners to explore these developments together. The event focuses on understanding future challenges, sharing perspectives, and discussing sustainable strategies that help build resilient and future proof production systems.

The evening is designed as an interactive forum, combining inspiration, dialogue and informal networking in a trusted setting.

Purpose & approach

Purpose

The purpose of Breeding Partnerships is to facilitate meaningful dialogue about the future of our industry and the role of breeding, innovation and collaboration in facing climate change.

Our approach

Enza Zaden hosts an interactive forum that combines:

  • Inspiring keynotes focused on learning and future insights
  • Dialogue and exchange between peers
  • Informal networking moments during dinner

The theme

Climate change & future opportunities

Climate change is no longer a distant challenge – it is a reality impacting daily decision making in our industry. Extreme weather conditions, resource constraints and changing regulations require new approaches and smarter, more sustainable solutions.

During this event, we will explore:

  • The expected future impact of climate change on food production
  • Which coping strategies are already available
  • What innovations and collaborations are still needed

Together, we look at how challenges can be transformed into opportunities for growth, innovation and long term value creation.

Our perspective

“Breeding to feed the world,
creating value for sustainable life and living.”

This purpose defines why we, Enza Zaden exist and guide everything we do - now and in the future.
The theme of Breeding Partnership 2026 closely aligns with our sustainability strategy and our focus on Customers, Products, Performance and People.
By connecting people, ideas and expertise, we aim to create value together with our customers and partners.
