We introduce our breakthrough in iceberg lettuce cultivation: new iceberg varieties with a complete protection package—full Bremia resistance, Nr:0, and Intermediate Resistance (IR) to Nasonovia Nr:1 (IR). The Nr:1 biotype of Nasonovia aphids has become a major threat to lettuce growers in Europe. With chemical controls losing effectiveness and resistance on the rise, growers have fewer options. That’s why resistance makes the difference.
Nasonovia ribisnigri, commonly known as the lettuce aphid, is a major pest affecting lettuce crops globally. It damages plants by extracting sap and transmitting viruses, leading to distorted leaves, stunted growth, lower yields, and rejection from retailers. Its rapid reproduction makes traditional control methods less effective plus EU restrictions on chemical pest management are leaving growers with fewer tools to fight Nr:1.
