As of July 1, 2023, we have acquired a carrot breeding program from the German company Carosem. This strategic acquisition strengthens our position in the vegetable seed industry by adding a new crop—carrot—to our diverse product portfolio.
This long-term investment aligns with our mission: breeding to feed the world and creating value for sustainable life and living. The acquisition includes an advanced carrot breeding program, several commercial carrot varieties, and inventory. No personnel were transferred as part of the agreement. Integrating this new crop will involve expanding our existing operations to support carrot breeding and development.
We are known for developing high-quality vegetable varieties across 34 international and local crops. By introducing the new crop carrot, we are further diversifying our portfolio, which already includes amongst others lettuce, tomato, onion, melon, (sweet) pepper and cucumber.
Jaap Mazereeuw, Chief Executive Officer at Enza Zaden: “This is an exciting development as it allows us to add a new crop to our product portfolio. We trust that with this acquisition we will even better serve our customers' needs and increase our market presence. Although developing new carrot varieties can be a process that spans up to ten years, we aspire to become a leading player in the carrot market in the long run.”
Andreas Muller, CEO of Carosem, added: “We are very happy that our carrot breeding program can now be further expanded under the umbrella of Enza Zaden. We are confident that as a respected worldwide player in vegetable breeding they will further develop our well developed program successfully.”
