Enza Zaden acquires Balk Wervershoof B.V.

As of February 8, 2024, we have officially acquired Balk Wervershoof B.V. (Balk Wervershoof). This GSPP-certified greenhouse horticulture company (GSPP: Good Seed & Plant Practices) has exclusively produced tomato, cucumber, and sweet pepper seeds for us for almost sixty years. Expanding our production capacity allows us to continue to meet the growing demand for high-quality vegetable seeds.

Strengthening our expertise

Jaap Mazereeuw, CEO of Enza Zaden, states: “We have enjoyed working with Balk Wervershoof for a long time. The company produces high-quality seeds and employs highly experienced and skilled employees. We are proud to add this expertise to our company now and extend a warm welcome to all the employees of Balk Wervershoof.”

Continuing a legacy

Klaas Balk, former owner of Balk Wervershoof B.V., and his brother Cees Balk add: “We have been working closely with Enza Zaden for almost sixty years now. Like Enza Zaden, we are a family business, and we are happy that all the knowledge and experience we have accumulated over the years can continue this way.”

A sustainable future

With the transfer of shares, we have become the new owner of Balk Wervershoof B.V. This investment aligns with our commitment to developing high-quality vegetable varieties that contribute to global food availability and sustainable living. Through this expansion, we reinforce our production capacity and ensure a strong future for vegetable seed production.
